And Thus, I made it to Mt. Pinatubo!
Yes, I promise to myself…someday I shall go there and reminisce our failed memories of adventure.
Equal Responsibilities
When you are living with other people in a host home setting, I guess it is mandatory to help out with the chores and experience the daily life of your host family. The four of us offered ourselves to wash the dinner plates. Each night, one person will have the task of washing the dishes, cutlery, glasses and cooking utensils- since we are eight people in the household, it can be a lot! but we don’t mind because it means there will be longer time to chat in the kitchen while one of us is battling the mountain of dishes on the sink.
It was quite fun to do the cycles- and if one forgets there will be a game to decide or usually it just points out to Ram ;) It was actually great to see our camaraderie forming like when one member is tired, the other one will get the post for the night- granting that the next night the one who’s tired will be the one who will do the task. It’s give and take, a brothers and sisters rule.

Oh I shall see myself in that place in five years! I need to start working for it! :D
My perfect tartan
During my time as a volunteer I fell in love with the Scottish culture. Blame it on the highland dancing shown to me on youtube! It was great to discover more about a culture different from my own, it is interesting to see the differences and similarities. It was quite amusing to learn that my counterpart, Katy, wanted to have a Barong Tagalog (A traditional Filipino shirt for males) while I am interested in having a Kilt. Our cultural exchange chats made us understand, respect and accept each other.
It was very funny when we were shopping for some shorts at the local market, she found me a pair of tartan shorts and coined it as my “perfect tartan”.
I miss our room in the host home and I’m missing my counterpart and our daily routine when I was in the Youth Action Programme. It was an extremely amazing experience to wake up everyday with your new found friends and with a sense of purpose- in my case, to encourage the people from my municipality to adapt a healthier lifestyle :)
